There’s only one thing you need to know about Jack, and that is that he loves to dance. Dancing is his life; it’s what he lives for and what his dreams are made of. He’s an aspiring sixteen year old who loves to get home from school walk straight though the lounge and past the TV, straight past the kitchen and into the back room. Why does he go to the back room? Because all that’s in it is a two-seater sofa, his Playstation and a large glass window and this is where he dances. The games console is used not for playing games on, but for playing music. The sofa cushions are used for him to practise moves that require a soft landing for the first few times and the window is used as a mirror so he can see his reflection.
Jack is dedicated and determined to reach his goal of becoming a professional dancer. The fact that he is practising using windows as mirrors proves just that. His family can only just afford for him to go to private dance lessons twice a week. The rest of the time is spent practising at home. His dancing style is similar to that of Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake; (It is, believe it or not, just coincidence that he has similar prowess to his namesake.) just smooth, slick, edgy and sharp moves, mixed together with break dancing and free style. Jack is rather proud of his unique approach.
This obsession for dancing however doesn’t mean that Jack doesn’t have a social life. He is popular enough, he has friends who value him for who he is and what he does and encourage and respect that dancing is important for him. There are also people that don’t like Jack either because they think he is a puff because he dances or because they just don’t like his personality, looks, demeanour, whatever you want to refer to it as. Jack is just an ordinary boy with a talent that he has honed from a young age. He is a friendly character and loves going out and about with his friends, cracking jokes and making people smile with his sarcastic attitude.
He can be rather shy however around girls and people he doesn’t know. Maybe he gets too wrapped up in dancing, or maybe it is just the fact that he is timid, but I think both factors have contributed greatly to the fact that Jack has never had a girlfriend. He doesn’t have the confidence around girls he doesn’t know or fancies and a lot of the time he is scared that people think that he is gay, which a lot of people do. Although, Jack has no problems with gay people, he gets annoyed when others stereotype him as homosexual just because he’s a dancer.
As he is, as you might have noticed, a performer, Jack enjoys music. He appreciates all types of music but especially loves tunes that have a good beat to them. He will often be seen walking along the street with headphones in his ears and ipod in his hand, dancing away down the pavement. Music and dancing is a way for Jack to escape reality and even though he is a modest person, he is not afraid to dance in front of people.

Born on February eleventh at one minute past the hour of midnight, Jack son was originally named Jaxon Michael Bennet. However, a few months later he was christened Jackson Michael Ryder-Bennet; his parents being James Ryder and Sharon Bennet and also being Christians. Jack was bought up as an only child until he was eleven years old, going to church every Sunday, going to school from Monday to Friday and dancing from Saturday to well Saturday. From an early age, Jack would jump around the living room, performing to his parents and dancing around to every song on the radio and every advert on the telly that had a tune in the background.
At four years old, Jackson’s parents enrolled him in dance classes, where he enjoyed success and performing in annual shows for family and friends of the children. Jack was the only boy, but it didn’t bother him until he was around ten years old. Because the school specialised in the dancing styles of tap, ballet, modern and gym, Jack had to do those techniques of dancing. He didn’t care, he loved them all and because the club was local, many girls at his school; also attended the dance classes. They were always talking to Jack about upcoming shows and competitions and Jack always bought in medals and trophies from competitions he had won. So it wasn’t long before the bullies started picking on Jack.
This made the young boy so sad and depressed he had to quit dancing all together. He started taking up football instead. His dad happily drove his son to practise on Saturday mornings and games on Sunday afternoons, but James Ryder could see after one season of playing decent football, his son was not as happy as he had been when dancing. And so, one night, James sat down with his son and talked to him about life. About how there were many good and bad people in the world. About how some people had talents but didn’t even know about them. That Jackson had a special ability in dancing that he should hone and become the best of the best in the profession, because James knew that dancing was what his son loved.
Jack slept that night on the thoughts his father had given him and he woke up in the morning in total agreement. That day was to be an eventful one. Jack and his father sat down at the kitchen table and thought about Jack’s love of dancing. They came up with what Jack would like to do. His father had said that it was important to concentrate on one type of dancing that he loved and because the boy was keen to try something new and dangerous, they come up with break-dancing. James searched through the phonebook all morning until they found a private dance instructor who taught break dancing up in Leicester. This was around an hours drive from where they lived in Milton Keynes, but James didn’t mind. He wanted his son to be happy. Around ten minutes after Jack’s lessons were booked for twice a week, every week, his mother went into labour and later that day gave birth to Jack’s little sister, Olivia Grace Ryder-Bennet.
And so Jack grew up, getting up, going to school, getting home and dancing. He still went out with his friends and he was a happy, clever boy, living a normal lifestyle. But one day, two years ago, something happened to change Jack’s life upside down.
I never did tell you what James Ryder did as a profession, did I? Well he was an insurance broker. Meaning he travelled around the country visiting rich people, trying to sell them insurance for their land, property, jewellery or anything. One day, James had a long trip down to South London. He was to stop over night at a hotel. It seemed that the hotel however was not of a very good standard. It had said three stars in the brochure, but the place looked like minus three stars. It was grotty, derelict and unclean and the other occupants weren’t very considerate either. The room above James’ was playing loud music at gone midnight and because he had a long journey home to next day, he needed his sleep. So he decided to ascend the stairs to the next floor and confront the people.
He had to bang loudly on the door but he was answered by a fierce looking man. But James stood his ground. He explained the situation but the fierce man was not sympathetic. As he went to slam the door, James jammed his foot in the way and tried reasoning with him but still the fierce man was not agreeing to turn down his music. It’s not really known what happened next, except that the fierce man pulled out a knife and stabbed James Ryder four times in the stomach. The man was convicted and sent down for twenty years. He was also jailed for possession of class C drugs.
Since that day, Jack has become even more dedicated and determined. He is determined to make his father proud and is doing everything for the man who understood his son’s hopes and dreams. Jack owes dancing to his father, because if it wasn’t for James Ryder, Jack would probably still be playing Sunday league football. It was also the death of his father that made Jack drop ‘Bennet’ from his name. His mother agreed to it. Jack Ryder is out to fulfil his dream and make his father proud so that when they meet in heaven, they will meet and be at ease.

It seemed it was way too early in the morning for anything to be seen or heard properly. Jack had only left the house five minutes ago, but so far he had nearly been run over by a car he swore he hadn't seen coming when he had looked to his left and he had definitely heard the beeping and the flashing of the green man that indicated that pedestrians could cross the road. That was until an old lady standing next to him at the pelican crossing pulled him back onto the pavement. So far, Jack had been subject to many an embarrassing scenario this Saturday morning. It had not been a good day and he had a dance class later and his instructor, Martin had wanted him to perform the routine they had been learning for the past week today. And yeah, you guessed it. Jack hadn't actually mastered the act.
It was a relief then to reach the safety of Starbucks. The weather outside was already extremely hot even though it was just gone ten in the morning and so Jack had made mistakes in donning his clothing this morning. Wearing a pair of black jeans that were neither skinny nor baggy and a dark red t-shirt with an Atticus logo emblazoned on the front, the sun had been burning him up as he walked into the town centre. The cool air conditioning was a release and Jack instantly felt the heat leave his cheeks and the sweat on his back cool. He self-consciously sniffed the air. No all was good; you could still smell the fragrance of Linx deodorant he had sprayed this morning.
His mother had sent him to the corner shop to get some coffee, but Jack thought he’d surprise her with her favourite cappuccino from Starbucks. Although his mum loved coffee and Starbucks it was only on rare occasions that she visited the shop. Jack on the other hand made a routine visit every time he went into town, even if it was a quick stop to buy a cake or hot chocolate. Jack didn’t think much to coffee. He was English and so preferred tea. He went up to the counter, he could feel the AC blowing his hair from his face, it felt so good in here.
Tapping the two pound coin he was holding on the glass counter, he looked up at the board as a very pretty girl, a couple of years older than Jack himself by the looks of her came up and asked him what he wanted. She seemed unfazed by his appearance but Jack suddenly felt himself come over all hot and felt extremely uncomfortable with his demeanour. Forcing himself to act casual he glanced up at the board again before saying. “A large cappuccino and a hot small chocolate please.” The girl turned around and busied herself with the order. Jack felt his heart pounding and he cursed his stupidity. This girl obviously didn’t give a damn about him.
”Anything else?” She asked a few moments later as she placed Jack’s order on the table. “Erm … a chocolate slice please.” Jack murmured. She had to crane her head forwards to hear him. Jack felt a pinky tinge appear on his cheeks and it had nothing to do with the weather. He took his order, with difficulty, over to a table in the corner. His mum could wait for her drink; he needed a sit down where it was cool. Jack pulled the plastic lid off his hot chocolate and some of it spilled over onto the table. Full with exasperation now, Jack looked up at the ceiling, trying to calm himself down. He poured two sachets of sugar into his drink; he needed a sugar rush and fast.
